war dead
Like most communities, Walsingham lost many lads in the two world wars,
most of whom have their names inscribed on the two village war memorials.
These records are a not only arecognition of their sacrifice but a tribute to their memory
Included in these records are those who, though not born in Walsingham, lived here when they were called up
as well as those who were born in the village but had moved away.
Whilst most served, died and were buried on the Western Front
others served, died and were buried as far afield as Palestine, Egypt and India
Amongst those who have no known graves were those lost at Scapa Flow and off the coast of the Dardenelles
as well as those killed on the Western Front
Four who were to make it home later died of their wounds and lie buried in St Mary's Churchyard.
These records are far from complete and we welcome any further information/photos, etc that can be added.
Research is ongoing so there will be regular updates
